Star Wars Empire Strikes Back-style AT-ST

Proud to present this model of the AT-ST walker design seen in Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back, before it was updated in 1981 to have shorter legs and a taller cockpit for its bigger role in Return of the Jedi. The first image is a render of it by the very talented

The rest of the images are all textured and rendered by me. Modeled and rigged in Maya, textured in Substance Painter, rendered in Blender.

Fortunately quite a few high quality photos of the original model exist and I was able to create this accurate interpretation! With lots of intentional imperfections and misalignments to look like a physical studio model instead of a perfect CG asset. The original model was also detailed asymmetrically only on the side facing the camera, so each fan made version gets to choose its own combination of features to preserve. The larger scale models used in Return of the Jedi were more faithful to it, but the modern CGI AT-STs are based on a smaller-scale go-motion model from RotJ, and have less details in common.
